Pitch
Speed
calculates
speed of a baseball based on a very simple formula. The
user stores distance between home plate and pitchers
mound in settings. The user waits for pitcher to throw
the ball. A button is pressed once when pitcher releases
the ball. The same button is pressed again when the ball
hits the catcher's mitt. The program meaures the time
between the two events. Speed is calculated as distance
divided by time, and displayed in miles per Hour. It
takes a little practice, but after a few minutes fairly
good results are obtained.
The app
has several cool features.
Mound Distance can be changed.
Standard distances for
MLB, softballl and little league can be selected. Select
the 'settings' tab, click on the desired distance. Custom Distance can
be entered
Custom distance can be
used for other leagues or to select a distance that the
user feels takes into account the pitcher's actual
release point. Select the 'settings' tab, click on
'custom distance'.
View
History
At any time, the user
can view a list of pitch speeds that have been recorded.
Click on the 'history' tab.
Add Comment
For the sake of making
the history more meaningful, the user can insert comments
into the history.The comment is added to the list of
speeds, The comment will appear in the history after the
most recently thrown pitch. This can be very helpful to
mark inning change, pitcher change or significant event -
strike out, home run, etc. Click on the 'comment' tab -
enter comment in text box, click 'save comment'.
Email
The program has the
capability to email pitch speed history - as a text file
attachment. Click the 'history' tab. Click on 'email
history'. A new window will open - enter your email
address and click 'send'. You will have the text file on
your computer when you get home. You can also enter a
default email address on the settings tab so that you do
not need to enter the adress each time you send.
Delete
History
At any time the current
history can be deleted from the 'history' tab press
'delete history'.
Pitch Count
Pitch Count is
displayed after each pitch. A red 'badge' appears next to
the small glove in the tab bar at the bottom of the
screen.
Settings
The following settings
are available on the 'settings' tab

email - allows you to
store a default email address
- Alternate
Button Technique -
allows you to use 'Press - Hold - Release'
- Pitching
Distance - allows
selection of common distances
- Use
Special Distance -
Turns on the ability to enter your own number
- Special
Distance - only active
if 'Use Special Distance' is selected - allows user to
put in any number
